“What?” you may be asking?

I don’t wash my face. Ever. I like it dirrrrrrrrrrty. Haha ok it’s not that… I just don’t WASH my face with soap or cleanser anymore. I haven’t for quite some time… and my skin couldn’t be better.

You may be thinking “this girl is insane! Who doesn’t WASH their face?” Fear not my children. For I will explain in great detail what I mean.

A while ago I heard a friend talking about this thing called “Oil Cleansing Method” or “OCM” for short. I didn’t really pay much attention to it at the time, but months later I heard it come up again and found myself quite interested this time. For what reason, I really don’t know. My skin hasn’t really been much of a problem most of my life… I didn’t NEED to change my routine. Yet something about this just seemed to make PERFECT sense to me. And I HAD to try it for myself.

I hit Bing hard and researched until my fingers ached, gathering everything I could, good and bad, about the OCM. I washed my face for the last time that night. For the next day I planned to go to Whole Foods and get all the products I needed for my own OCM concoction.

The quick version is that OIL DISSOLVES OIL. I know, it sounds completely counterintuitive, but if you can think back to High School Chemistry class, you may remember that only LIKE SUBSTANCES dissolved LIKE SUBSTANCES. Like dissolves like. Oil dissolves oil. Crazy, right?

For some reason though- it was like the lightbulb clicked on for me.

I GOT it.

This idea of washing/stripping my skin and then wondering why it felt all icky and dry, followed by a tidal wave of oil production was CAUSED by the harsh soaps! DUH!

I promptly made my first batch and have never looked back. It took me a few weeks for my skin to adjust (Sadly, it did have some spazzing out, but then it normalized) but it’s been so soft and luxurious since. It breaks out less than before and it’s less dry than with my twice daily moisturizing. What a wonder!

My mixture (after LOTS of trial and error) is:

1 part castor oil, 1 part jojoba oil, 1 part avocado oil, and my own special blend of essential oils (just for a little treat!)

Each night, I lube up my face with a slab of oil, makeup and all. I rub it in with my clean fingers until it’s thoroughly mixed up my makeup so badly that I look like a crash dummy after a windshield test. Excellent. Run the tap hot and use a clean washcloth under the water. Ring out, and lay gently on my face. Hot, but not burning. After 15-20 seconds, wipe off the oily mess that is my face. Presto. That’s it.

After that, I let my face dry for about 10 minutes and dab on my prescription Retin-A as needed for spot treatment of breakouts. Let that soak in for another 5-10, and then I layer on 100% pure Organic Argan Oil. Ahhhh-mazing.

Would love to know if you have ever tried it and your thoughts on the matter! 🙂

Happy Skin to all, and to all a goodnight
