Today (Monday, April 15) as I was singing and worshipping the Lord my dear friend was suggesting songs for TV taping today. (In case you don’t know, I lead worship/sing for a daily Television Program) She was really feeling a theme about trusting God and forgiveness and had some suggestions for me to do today. One of them was called “Still.” It’s not a new song, it’s actually kind-of a oldie and it’s been a while since I last sang it, but I knew it well and it was quite easy for me.

“Hide me now, under Your wings. Cover me within Your mighty hand. When the oceans rise and thunders roar, I will soar with You above the storm. Father, You are King over the flood. I will be still, and know You are God.”

As I was singing the first verse, I felt a wave of calm washing over me. Not necessarily a thick fog of anointing like I have felt occasionally when I worship, but more of a quiet resting. It was so pleasant I almost didn’t even notice it at first. Like the softest, most gentle of breezes.

I was reading my bible tonight and found my way to Psalm 17:8 which says “Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.” Seemed like the theme of the day.

I did some other things and got ready for bed. As I usually do, I read in my Jesus Calling book my daily word, and then I write in my devotional journal. I flipped open to the page in Jesus Calling that was for today’s date and found the topic was about trusting the Lord.

I was so moved at the unbelievable consistency of today’s obvious message from The Lord to me that I will copy exactly what the book said below:

Trust Me, and don’t be afraid. Many things feel out of control. Your routines are not running smoothly. You tend to feel more secure when your life is predictable. Let Me lead you to the rock that is higher than you and your circumstances. Take refuge in the shelter of My wings, where you are absolutely secure.

When you are shaken out of your comfortable routines, grip My hand tightly and look for growth opportunities. Instead of bemoaning the loss of your comfort, accept the challenge of something new. I lead you on from glory to glory, making you fit for My kingdom work. Say yes to the ways I work in your life. Trust Me, and don’t be afraid.

–Sarah Young, Jesus Calling

Isaiah 12:2 – Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

Psalm 61:2-4 – From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower again the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

2 Corinthians 3:18 – But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

I sort-of laughed when I read the first couple lines. Isn’t it funny how God can work through a series of seemingly random or unrelated things to show you what He has probably been trying to get through for a while? I marveled. How incredible He is. How much He loves me. How He would tell me in completely different ways THE EXACT SAME THING.

First, my friend suggests a song that reminds me to be still and know He is God, and hide under the safety of His wings. Second, I stumble upon Psalm 17:8 “Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.” Third, my Jesus Calling devotional for today reads “Take refuge in the shelter of My wings, where you are absolutely secure.”

I am constantly amazed at His great love for me. I am so undeserving of it, and still do not know why He loves me so much. However, I am overwhelmed with thankfulness that He does.
